Oil Colour

Oil Colour

In industrial textile processing and chemical finishing, standard fine-art oil paints are completely impractical because their drying oils oxidize far too slowly and cure into a rigid, brittle layer that ruins the fabric’s tactile quality. Instead, the term “oil colour” in commercial textiles refers specifically to solvent-based inks, fat-soluble solvent dyes, or pigment concentrates dispersed in non-aqueous, hydrocarbon carriers.

These specialized formulations are utilized for highly niche applications, such as printing on heavily treated, water-repellent industrial fabrics, executing precision stencil markings on heavy canvas, coating outdoor tarpaulins, or creating specific distressed, coated aesthetics on denim and leather apparel. They cure via solvent evaporation or specialized chemical cross-linking agents, leaving behind a highly resilient, water-resistant color layer that bonds strongly to difficult, non-porous synthetic textile substrates where water-based systems fail to adhere.
